five delicious cocktails to get you through dry January

Are you kissing the booze goodbye for the month of January? You might be giving up the alcohol, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up the delicious flavors and the beautiful cocktails that come with it. We’ve taken five of our favorite cocktails and turned them into mocktails. Just this once we ask that you don’t drink responsibly. They’re all too good to just have one. 

47 Sour 

Our classic bourbon sour just oh, don’t make us say it… hold the bourbon. 

Ingredients

  • 2 oz non-alcoholic bourbon or whiskey
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice 
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 3/4 oz egg white
  • garnish: lemon peel and/or cocktail cherry

Directions 

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake for 10-12 seconds. Pour into a chilled coupe or martini glass and garnish with a cocktail cherry and lemon peel. 

Cucumber Cooler

A refresher you can take with you all year long. Best enjoyed on Dant Crossing’s Poplar Cottage deck overlooking the lake. 

Ingredients

  • 2 oz fresh brewed tea
  • .75 oz Fresh squeezed Lime Juice
  • .75 oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 slices cucumber

Directions

Muddle cucumber in a cocktail shaker. Combine ingredients and fill with ice. Shake with ice and strain. Garnish with cucumber.


Fireside Sipper 

Take our word for it, you’ll want to sip this one fireside all winter long.

Ingredients 

  • 2 ounce apple cider
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 oz Ginger beer
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

Directions

In a shaker tin, add apple cider, lemon juice, egg white, and a dash of cinnamon. Shake dry, then add ice. Shake again, then strain into coupe glass. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with apple slices and sprinkles of cinnamon or a cinnamon stick.

Southern Living’s Shandy 

Southern Living shared this recipe that features our Monk’s Road Dry Gin. You can leave out the gin and still enjoy the delicious flavors of this cocktail. This is one you can whip up for the whole family. (Serves 8) 

Ingredients

  • 3 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
  • ½ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons fresh shredded ginger
  • ½ cup simple syrup
  • 1 bottle chilled club soda
  • Apple and lemon slices for garnish

Directions

Puree apples, lemon juice, and ginger in a blender. Pour mixture through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, pressing to release juices, discard solids. Stir in simple syrup.. Chill 2 hours. Stir in club soda. Serve over ice. Garnish with apple and lemon slices if desired.

Southern Living’s Spiced Tea Refresher 

Another Southern Living recipe that featured  our Monk’s Road Bourbon we couldn’t leave out. (Serves 10) 

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of water
  • 6 regular-size black tea bags
  • 2 cups refrigerated bottled lemonade
  • ¾ cup honey simple syrup
  • Orange wedges for garnish

Directions

Bring water and tea bags to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and steep for 30 minutes. Remove tea bags, letting excess liquid drain into tea (Do not squeeze.) Discard tea bags. Chill tea 1 hour or up to 1 day. After the tea has chilled, stir together tea, bourbon, lemonade, and honey simple syrup in a large pitcher or punch bowl. Serve over ice and garnish with orange wedges.
